Personal Branding Photography for Entrepreneurs Walt Hampton and Ann Sheybani
We’ve worked with a lot of photographers over the years. Dermot is one of the very few who “gets it.” He understands the outcome, and how the work will be used. He comes prepared with energy, enthusiasm and passion. He listens and stays curious. He’s open to suggestions. He engages the work creatively and playfully. We’ve done multiple shoots with Dermot over the years; and there will be many more. He’s that good.

Building a Personal Brand
I’ve been planning to do a series of posts about people or companies that I have an ongoing working relationship with.
This first one is about Walt Hampton and Ann Sheybani, who are American but who are based in and work from West Cork.
They conduct all of their business online and are very active across all social media, so they need a lot of content for their online marketing.
I met Walt in 2016 when he was giving a presentation at a business event that I was photographing for the Southern Star newspaper. We got talking about our shared love of photography and I sent him some of the photographs I had shot on the day. Not long after, he contacted me to see if I would be interested in doing some personal branding photography with Ann for her website.
We have since collaborated on four branding photo shoots together, which has built them a library of photographs that they can use on Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram to promote their individual and joint business ventures.
Personal Brand Strategy
Helpfully, they will have researched the sorts of images they want in advance of our shoots. They send me a series of photographs that capture the look and style that they are going for. Sometimes it has been a casual, dressed down look, although we did a shoot at Liss Ard house in Skibbereen that had a more business and glamorous look.
At our most recent shoot, we were aiming for a clean crisp office and working from home look for the photographs. I had a mood board of images from Pinterest to study before the shoot and we made decisions about the clothing and the props. We shot for about an hour, reviewing the images as we went along.
Personal Brand Photography
Working with people over a series of shoots, sometimes months or even years apart is a great way to develop a common visual language and a speeds up the process of getting the look and the images that you want.
